Pirx (50), an ageing space pilot haunted by his past failures, is now taking a reluctant command role on a mission to salvage data from the wrecked exploration ship "Farfarer". Tasked by Intellec, a robotics corporation, to test their Nonlinear robots alongside a human crew, Pirx grapples with his own insecurities as he quickly realises the crew's trust is fractured and secrets abound.
As tensions mount aboard the "Goliath", especially with the cunning Nonlinear pilot Calder, Pirx faces life-threatening challenges that force him to confront not just the technology around him, but his own humanity. The mission culminates in betrayal, existential revelations, and a fight for survival that exposes the thin line between man and machine.
