The film follows Rimants who is more interested in playing rugby, listening to music and dealing on the black market than studying for school, but when he falls in love with Monika, his faith in love and the future is tested.
Estonian film critic Tristan Priimägi has said:
“The film tells a layered and rich story of personal growth that is ultimately very moving. The characters are authentic and bold, even when they’re unpleasant. The Southern Chronicles is a true journey through time and the formative years of one person’s life.”
