THE BICYCLE THIEF

"The Bicycle Thief" tells the story of 10-year-old Sigrit and her younger sister Ingrid, who spend their summer days in a small Estonian town. While their mother, Kristin, works tirelessly to provide for them, their care is left in the unpredictable hands of their stepfather Slava, whose carefree attitude and questionable judgement leave the girls to fend for themselves.

Everything changes when Sigrit’s brand-new bike, a prized 10th birthday gift, is stolen. What follows is a stormy week filled with unexpected twists, as Sigrit is thrust into a world far too complicated for a child. Moral lines blur, and she is forced to grapple with adult challenges, testing the very boundaries of right and wrong. Each day strips away a piece of her innocence as the weight of responsibility bears down on her young shoulders.

As the week unfolds, the film dives deep into themes of lost innocence, family dysfunction, and societal neglect. However, despite the adversity they face, Sigrit and Ingrid's story is one of resilience.
